In Athens!

It's been a while since I've written, so I thought I should mention that I have recently been accepted on scholarship to study music at the University of Georgia in Athens. I'm working on my Bachelor of Music degree, and hope to be completed by 2014. After that, I'd like to continue my studies and pursue a Masters Degree in Music, but we'll see how it goes of course.

My wife and I moved to Athens back in August and are happily adjusting to life in this college town.

Rhapsody in Blue

Here's my performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, on April 28, 2011. The orchestra accompaniment was provided by the Georgia Perimeter College Wind Ensemble, conducted by Slava Prudchenko. This was the first time I have ever played with an instrumental ensemble of this size. It was a joyous and awesome experience for me!

Danzas Argentinas

I performed this piece over a year ago, but late than never I suppose.

It was performed at the 2010 Spring Student Recital at Georgia Perimeter College.

Enjoy!

The year has flown by!

Well - this was a whirlwind year! I can't believe it's already gone! And what a year it has been. A little less than a week ago I performed the Rhapsody in Blue with the GPC Wind Ensemble - it was an awesome experience! The audience loved it, and jumped to their feet in a standing ovation before I even managed to get up and take a bow.

And yesterday was the end of year Honor's recital. I performed Liszt, Debussy, and Bach. It went very well - another standing ovation was received!

Back in school

School started up last week, and I'm working hard to get in the swing of things. I suppose I'm officially a sophomore now! My piano prof is loading me up, and I learned today that I'll get to perform Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in the spring with the college's wind ensemble orchestra! I'm really jazzed about that - a dream come true in a sense!

Lots of other music to learn also - Liszt, Debussy, Beethoven, Bach, Ginastera, and Chopin! When does one sleep?

Atlanta Symphony Pops Orchestra

Wow! My wife and I have been rehearsing with the 85 voice Perimeter Church Unite Choir since June in preparation for a performance called Broadway Rocks with the Atlanta Symphony Pops Orchestra. All of our effort finally culminated in a performance at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre here in Alpharetta, GA on July 23.

Danzas Argentinas

I have really enjoyed learning Ginastera's Danzas Argentinas these last several months. It is an exciting piece of music - a suite of three short dances for solo piano. Written in the late 1930's, it reflects the wonderful nationalistic style of Ginastera.

The first dance - Danza del viejo boyero - describes the Dance of the Old Ox Herdsman. It's a wild ride, but not too difficult to play, really, even though the hands are playing in 2 different keys - the left hand on the black keys and the right on the white keys.

The Year Has Flown By!

Wow!

The year sure has flown by quickly, hasn't it? It's hard for me to imagine that we're already through another school year. I've enjoyed teaching everyone this year. Probably the most exciting part of my week is teaching piano. Thank you greatly to all who have participated!

Back to Teaching!

It was great to be back teaching yesterday! Love it!! Looking forward to seeing the rest of you soon!

Lesson slots

Thank you everyone for such quick response! Already, within two days of publishing my schedule, all but one of our weekday lesson slots are full. I truly wish I had the time to schedule more lessons during the week, but the schedule of my full-time computer (programming) job combined with my part-time college class work makes it very difficult to do more.

However, I do still have 5 slots open on Saturday. I hope that option will work for you.
